Marco Del Freo: Beyond Performance, the Art of Quality
Marco Del Freo is an artist, author and producer whose career represents a bridge between the great era of Italian singer-songwriter music and the creative innovation of today. With over thirty years of experience, his journey is marked by a constant pursuit: a sonic truth that escapes technological standardisation to return to the essence of human emotion.
International Success: The South American Chapter
Marco’s artistic path took flight in 1988 when, at just 24 years old, he conquered the prestigious Festival de Viña del Mar in Chile with the song Senza te. This triumph marked the beginning of an intense international season: between 1988 and 1989, Marco released the album Sin Ti in Spanish for CBS Chile, which rapidly climbed the charts in several Latin American countries. During this period he became a familiar face on South American television, appearing in the most important programmes of the region, including the famous Martes Trece in Chile. In the same two-year period, he brought his success to Italy, where the album was re-released in 1989 under the title Profumo di donna (C&M / Ricordi), consolidating his profile as a cosmopolitan artist.
From Italian Television to Recognition as an Author
Back in Italy, Marco became a protagonist of a golden era of national television. In the 1990s he appeared in iconic programmes such as Mille lire al mese (Rai 1), hosted by Pippo Baudo with Giancarlo Magalli and Sabina Stilo, directed by Michele Guardì. Orchestral direction was entrusted to the legendary Maestro Gianni Ferrio, an iconic figure of Italian music who led the greatest Rai shows and collaborated with major artists of the calibre of Mina. He also appeared in La canzone del secolo (Canale 5). A highlight was the 1996 edition of Viva Napoli (Canale 5), hosted by Mike Bongiorno and Massimo Lopez, where Marco achieved second place with a memorable performance of Marechiaro. His talent as an author blossomed in 2002: he co-wrote with David Marchetti Doppiamente fragili, the song with which a very young Anna Tatangelo won the “Nuove Proposte” section of the Sanremo Festival, establishing himself as one of the most authoritative voices in the Italian music scene. That same year, Marco participated in World Youth Day in Toronto. At the Molson Theatre he performed alongside the greatest figures in international music in the presence of Pope John Paul II, in an event broadcast in Italy by Rai International.
The Analogue Heart: The Choice of Tuscany
Today, Marco Del Freo has chosen to be rooted in his production studio in Tuscany, a place where technology serves music, and not the other way around. In an era dominated by the digital, Marco is a firm advocate of analogue production: a counter-current choice aimed at capturing “pure frequencies” and enhancing the performance of real, live musicians. In this temple of sound, Marco works daily not only as a producer but also as a vocal coach, devoting time and expertise to the growth of new talents, helping them find and preserve their own vocal identity.
The Pen of the Chronicler and Storyteller
Marco’s intellectual curiosity does not stop at music. In 2016 he published the book Il discount del canto, a work that uncovers the inner workings and challenges of the industry. His talent as a writer continues today on two parallel tracks: on one side, the commitment to social analysis with his new investigative book “You Rube”, which exposes the invisible mechanisms of the digital landscape; on the other, creative narrative, with the final drafting of the uchronic novel “L’acquerellista”, a work that confirms his ability to explore alternative worlds and imaginative scenarios.

Looking to the Future
Always balancing respect for tradition with an eye on new platforms, Marco Del Freo continues to build projects that put the human being at the centre. Whether a new song, a literary investigation or a novel, his is the story of a professional who has never stopped questioning the value of art, always choosing the quality of emotion over easy success.
